We at Co-Pak Packaging Corporation have extensive experience in packaging design, and we are here to help you choose and create the ideal packaging for your products. Over the years, we have seen several mistakes in packaging design occur again and again, and we want to help you avoid falling victim to these errors yourself. In this article, we’ll go over a few of these mistakes and what you should do instead.
- Lack of Clarity- One mistake people often make when it comes to product packaging design is failing to ensure the package “reads” clearly—in other words, the design fails to communicate what the product is, how to open it, or other important information that the customers need to know. The text could be confusing to read, or the product could be packaged in containers that look like they are for a different type of product altogether—for example, bottling a condiment in a bottle that looks like it’s for shampoo.
- Inaccurate Sizing- Another mistake that people tend to make when choosing product packaging is selecting packaging options that are too large for the items inside. This generally causes the customers to be disappointed that the item in question is not as big as advertised, or it can cause customers to avoid the product altogether because they think that it is too large.
- Excessive Packaging- On a related note, a third common product packaging mistake is using too much of it. While it’s understandable to want to give your product enough protection to ensure it survives transit in good condition, including too much packaging can negatively affect the customer’s experience of your product.
